Here are 8 great safe Halloween tips that came up in our support group last night.
- Teach your child not to eat any candy while trick or treating. Wait until they get home and you can inspect their candy.
- Have your child wear a costume with gloves on so they won’t touch any open candies.
- Give pre-made Halloween bags to your neighbors that are safe for your child. They can give them to your kid when he is there trick or treating.
- Hand out stickers, erasers, superballs, etc… instead of candy. Encourage your neighbors to do the same.
- Ask your neighbors to put the candy in the child’s bucket, so the kids don’t need to touch it.
- Have safe candies at home and trade them out with the unsafe ones that the kids bring home.
- Recommend nut free candies to your neighbors and hand them out as well, examples are kettle corn, gummi bears, skittles, starburst, etc…
- Have fun! Remember this is a big part of childhood. Your child should not be deprived festivities because of their allergies. You just need to make it safe!
