This past week, this allergic traveler, had the pleasure of going to the Outer Banks with her husband. Having lived in North Carolina for over three years, I am amazed we never got around to going. My husband has wanted to take me for quite some time but we could never seem to get to it. Such a waste! The Outer Banks are beautiful. Not only physically beautiful, the locals were also great. They showed an awareness of allergy problems and were considerate in all the restaurants we visited.

Friends

An added bonus for me was some friends from Canada had rented a house in Nag’s Head. They were there for a glorious ten days! Canadians know how to vacation!  We were only able to go for five days, which I am very grateful for, as it was much needed. In that time we got to see so many beautiful things. We saw the wild horses in Corolla, we saw dolphins at the beach, we climbed the lighthouse in Currituck, we went to Cape Hatteras and we saw the house from the movie Nights in Rodanthe. All these activities involved no eating, making it a safe zone for me.

Made all the difference…

The extra-added pleasure for this allergic traveler was that my friend Kathleen from Canada is what you would call a seasoned chef. She loves cooking all styles and nationalities. She is never afraid of any food challenges. As she has known me for over fifteen years, my allergies hardly pose a challenge to her. She is very comfortable in the kitchen and she is a great cook! I loved the fact that my meal was prepared by someone I love and trust. It was just another added bonus to me being able to truly relax while on vacation. Our trip to the Outer Banks was truly remarkable. If you have not been…GO!

I have attached some pictures so you may see for yourself the beauty of where we were.
